Fate vs. Freewill

In Oedipus Rex, the main theme is the belief in fate. Fate is the deciding factor in his world. Today, I believe that the deciding factor that we belive in is freewill. Most of us today believe that we can decide our own fate. There were very few people in those days that believed that they could control thier own fate. Oedipus believes the gods decide what his fate was; as did most during the sophocles era. This play shows that Oedipus could not avoid his fate no matter how far he believed he was from it.
